Taking Time To Be My Own Blog Coach
I have a confession.
If you go back and check out my first blog, it did not publish on May 1. It published in November of 2015. And then I just let it sit there… all by itself… for six months.
It’s exactly what I tell my clients NOT to do, and then I just went and did the same thing. So, I made a new promise this morning after listening to one of my favorite podcasts, Entreleadership. The promise is to spend the first 30 minutes of my work day working on my business. Today is Day #1.
I love to write, so I don’t know why blogging should be a big deal for me. I blog coach for my clients, edit their creations, and sometimes even write blogs on their behalf. But it’s hard for me to make time to write about my own business. I guess now I can relate to where my clients are most of the time. Today I’m going to treat myself like a client and give myself the same advice that I sell to others. You’re welcome to listen in.
Blog who you are. Clearly, that’s what I’m doing today. My goal in this blog is to share a glimpse into the life of a solopreneur who loves God, family, community, and work.
Blog what you do. Yes, there will be some nuggets of marketing and PR wisdom I’m learning along the way.
Blog where you’re struggling. Today is a good example. This blog offers a peek behind the curtain about the ups AND downs of my work life.
Blog when you can. As long as it’s at least once a month. You can’t see me, but I’m pinky-promising you right now to show up at least once a month. Hold me to it.
Blog your why. I love, love, love Simon Sinek’s book Start with Why. I started my business to meet a need: to help small businesses and non-profits who are working to improve East Central Indiana. These awesome organizations deserve outstanding PR and marketing services even if they can’t afford a full-time dedicated marketing department.
Blog the how. When I encounter a nugget of wisdom or an “ah-ha” moment, I’m going to share them here– for two reasons. First, to be a good neighbor and pay it forward. Second, so that I can remember those nuggets down the road. I don’t know about you, but I get inundated with so much information that I sometimes forget to focus on the treasures that I find along the way.
If you’re a bit of a detective, you might have noticed that this follows the old journalism 5Ws & 1H formula. I’m not one to re-invent the wheel when I find a pattern that works.
Well, here we go. Stay tuned to find out what I’m learning about along the way as a small business owner and all-around “word girl.” It’ll be a fun ride…
